10 Weird But Awesome Inventions From The 20th Century

1. Brush and Shine 

This Brush and Shine featured bristles for brushing side burn area and a felt pad to gently massage exposed scalp. (Developed by Los Angeles Brush Manufacturing Corp. 1950) 

2. Vending Machine for Tanning

A 30-second spray job could have been yours for a dime. (Held at the Annual Vending Machine Convention, 1949)

3. Neck Brush

A brush that cleaned a child's neck without the use of soap and water. (Developed by the Los Angeles Brush Corp., 1950)

4. Hanging TV Stand 

A portable television could be lowered or raised to any height with this stand! (Displayed at the China Glass and Gift Market, 1963) 

5. Power Mower Deluxe 

This futuristic "lawn mower" could mow the lawn, weed it, feed it, seed it, spray for insects, plow snow and haul equipment. (1957) 

6. McCoy Sportsman Scooter 

This motorized scooter traveled at 8 mph with a 120-pound passenger board. (1949)

7. Early Video Dating

Phones linked to four TV sets and two cameras so each person could see a picture of himself and the person he or she was talking to. FaceTime? (Held at the Radio and Television Fair, 1957) 

8. The First ATM 

This banking machine was displayed for the first time at the American Bankers Association annual meeting in 1966. 

9. New Cigarette Lighter 

This lighter did not use a flick or wick and was not much bigger than a cigarette. (Frankfurt Autumn Fair, 1950) 

10. Infra Red Lamp 

Powered by bottled gas, the infra red lamp produced artificial sunshine. (1959)
